New Collection From LeSportsac Made With Recycled Water Bottles

A lot has changed since 1974 when LeSportsac opened its first store in NYC, but one thing remained — their commitment to innovation and creativity in their products.

With more and more companies turning to sustainable practices, LeSportsac has decided to help remove plastic from the waste cycle, while at the same time offering their customers fashionable and recognizable accessories.

Their new collection is called ReCycled and it comes in three prints, each making a statement about green practices in production and packaging.

Inhabitat reports that LeSportsac focuses its sustainable practices by using post-consumer water bottles in the fabric of their bags — every yard of fabric equals nine recycled bottles. 

“Small and large cosmetic, cross-body, hobo, and weekender bags make up the collection in all three prints. Eco Iris Garden features tones of blue and purple with the telltale yellow color punch of an iris in bloom. Eco Rose Garden offers a colorful and classically feminine floral motif. Eco Black delivers the same travel bag options in a more subdued color offering.”

The process involves collecting, cleaning, and shredding plastic bottles into small chips, which are then machine-spun into yarn for fabric.

After more than four decades in the industry, LeSportsac’s mission is clear — design bags for consumers who prefer an active lifestyle and insist on sustainable, green practices.

We can hope that more and more outfitters jump on that bandwagon.
